Description

Camphor is a naturally occurring monoterpene ketone primarily derived from the wood of the camphor tree (Cinnamomum camphora), though it is also produced synthetically. It sublimes easily at room temperature and possesses a characteristic penetrating odor. Medically, it is used as a topical antipruritic and anti-infective agent; industrially, it serves as a plasticizer for celluloid and plastics, as well as an active ingredient in disinfectants, mothballs, and various fragrance compositions.
